New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare was murdered on March 15, 2024 near Tucumcari, NM.
The monster (Jaremy Smith) that ended Officer Hare’s life was captured (and shot) by Bernalillo County Deputies on March 17, 2024. The body camera video has been released.

OIS
Once located by deputies, Jaremy was chased on foot and wounded by gunfire after he reached for his waistband as law enforcement closed in. Authorities found a 9mm pistol nearby. Jaremy was shot in the arm by BCSO deputies and spent several days in the hospital before he was cleared to enter the jail.
Federal
Jaremy is facing two federal charges: Carjacking resulting in death and discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
New Mexico
Once the federal case is completed, Jaremy will face a murder charge for the death of New Mexico State Police Officer Justin Hare.
South Carolina
The Marion County Sheriff's Department in South Carolina has also charged Jaremy Smith with 17 felonies - including murder, kidnapping, carjacking and felon in possession of a firearm for his role in the murder of South Carolina paramedic Phonesia Machado-Fore. Ms. Machado-Fore was reported missing the day before Officer Hare was murdered and Jaremy was driving her car as he slithered into New Mexico.
