For all those who arm chair quarterback this, there is no way, you will ever be able to step into the shoes of these two officers, much less the officer who justifiably used deadly force.
Those who would suggest that their intentions were to kill anyone, much less a mother and child are dumb asses at best. Mitchel Holder should be prosecuted. It was outright intentional defamation of the officers, via his lying and sensationalizing of a tragic incident.
Prayers go out to this officer. There is a hard road ahead in many way.
Great message to the officer DC and I hope it is received by them and applied. I sincerely pray that that officer is surrounded by the most compassionate and effective peer support team possible. Again, great work!
It is always sad when people are so quick to blame the officer without knowing the facts of the situation. That officer had no choice but to shoot or he would've likely lost his life and been severely injured.
This reminds me of a case from around a month ago, an officer was approached by a woman with a knife in an apartment hallway when he was there on some domestic disturbance call. He tried to keep his distance and didn't fire a shot until she had already injured him. His outcome could've also been much worse.
People think that LEOs think lightly of taking a life. Sure I bet there are a few of them, but taking a life, even when the officer is in the right to do so, often weighs so heavily on them.
This is a tragic incident for all involved, the effect this will have on that officer is beyond understanding for those that have never taken a human life before. Justification helps, but it doesn’t take all the pain and suffering he will endure away. Hopefully he gets the help he will need and it’s not the typical mandatory couple visits to the shrink to say they are ready to return to work and then they wash their hands of it. The admin for this Dept has already screwed up and placed themselves and that officer against the public with letting the husband go around for 20 days making statements to anyone and everyone about the incident and if I had to guess, making no statement what so ever other than the we are performing a investigation of the incident. The Chief or Sheriff, whoever, saw the body worn camera footage within hours of this incident happening and just from the still shot, kind of hard to see how this shooting couldn’t be ruled as justified. Even if you don’t make the final determination at that time, release the video to the public as soon as the husband starts the victim tour. Hell, you don’t have to make a bunch of news releases and go onto news shows, every Dept now has a facebook page, short statement about do to some false information being released to the public, you are going to release the body worn camera of the incident and put a link on the facebook page. It will shut down the husband in his tracks and probably save the city/county a bunch of money in the civil action that will be in the works. In todays anti police world, I am sure there are attorneys lined up around the block trying to get the husband to choose them to sue for this action. If the video is out and its obvious that the shooting was justified, just by watching it, it will pause the ambulance chasers out there at least for awhile till the investigations complete.

A horrible situation made even worse by the lying family members
There is a former police officer from Michigan that that has a ministry called Tactica USA. Have the officer reach out to them.

I could never do this job but I am eternally grateful there are people who can. Unreal.
