Johnny Mims is on a media tour. Not one single “journalist” will dare ask him tough or even reasonable questions. This is due to the obvious risk of any slight pushback being able to completely destroy his weak and dishonest narrative. That important work is therefore left for us. Those who care about truth and decency in the face of divisive narratives.1

First
The thing that you need to know about Johnny Mims is that he has an excuse for everything. He accepts zero personal responsibility. Truly a great role model for high school students.
Second
Police officers in Birmingham, Alabama were asked by the high school administration to clear out the stadium in a safe and timely manner. The intent was so that all participants and spectators would not linger in the stadium all hours of the night. The school stadium facility must close at a certain time and the longer that hoards of teenagers are on the premises after the game - the greater chance of an incident.
Therefore, school officials taking actions to encourage people to leave was reasonable.
Thus, police had a lawful objective to ask both high schools bands to stop playing.
Third
When police officers asked the home team’s band to stop playing - they did. There was no issue. And, very predictably, there was no use of force or arrest. See, when people act in a reasonable manner with police officers - the chances of arrest or violence are virtually zero.2
Fourth
Johnny Mims (the band director for the visiting team) was also asked to stop playing by police. He refused. He told police officers, “Get out of my face!” seven times.
Johnny did not know if there was an emergency, an ambulance trying to get through, a curfew for when the school stadium had to close, or any other reason for the directions from police. Johnny didn’t know and Johnny didn’t care. Johnny only cared about unnecessarily defying police for the sweet chance at his fifteen minutes of fame.
See, when you have not much else in your life - opportunities like this are a potential gold mine. And Johnny swung for the fences.
The Grift
Eventually, police officers informed Johnny that he was going to be arrested if he did not comply. He responded by stating, “That’s cool” and gave cops a thumbs up.
Then, in highly predictable fashion, like reading from a highly rehearsed script - when police went to place him under arrest - Johnny (allegedly) resisted and tried to hit a police officer.
Excuse Me
Johnny has a lot of excuses for his actions. The more media he does - the more he will come up with. And with zero challenge to his narrative - he has no incentive to slow down this gravy train. Because if a journalist asks him a reasonable question - he will call them "racist”. And, unfortunately, being called a “racist” by an idiot can end a career in journalism.
I just want one person to ask the question, “Why didn’t you just listen to the police officers?” That’s it. A single simple question.
Johnny’s most ridiculous excuse was that he blamed his skin color for why the students “couldn’t see me.”
I should note that Johnny has a similar skin color to the police officers involved in this incident - and the students were able to see them just fine.
