Housekeeping
I started this publication as a way to not only explore these complex and interesting issues in a more substantial and complete way than I could in the short videos I create for Tik Tok, YouTube, and IG - but I wanted a space where debate and discussion could be held - without a 200 character count limit.
I will be retiring from my police department within the next few weeks and will be writing more - as there is an endless amount of both justified and controversial police incidents to discuss. Also, the misinformation from the army of anti-police activists grows and the response from those on this side must be constant and aggressive.
We appreciate any support to this mission.
2023 Top Stories.
Most Entertaining
The sex scandal that the La Vergne, TN police department went through. Former Officer Megan Hall was at the center of this scandal. The memes alone made this the most entertaining story of the year. Also, when this story broke - there were undoubtedly hundreds of cops from dozens of agencies hoping that their similar ongoing scandals did not become public. Hall has filed a lawsuit against the city -claiming she was “groomed” and taken advantage of by supervisors within the police department.
Best Policing
This one is not close. The heroes of the Nashville, TN police department and their response to the active shooter at the Covenant School. If Uvalde was an example of cowardice and poor police management in 2022. Then Nashville was an example of excellent policing in 2023. The response from these officers set the standard for how active shooter incidents should be responded to by police. Incidents like this remind us that there is still a place for the “warrior culture” in policing - because no one calls a social worker to kill a monster.
Good News from 2023.
Former Huntsville, AL officer (Ben Darby) won his appeal and was freed from prison. He subsequently reached a plea deal with prosecutors for “credit time served” and 3 years of probation. Follow Ben and his wife’s (Keelin) journey (StandWithDarby).
Kim Potter released was released after serving a little over two years in prison for the shooting of Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, MN. Kim clearly did not intend to use deadly force against Mr. Wright. But, Mr. Wright did intend to resist arrest, fight with police officers, and behave in an illegal manner that set this entire set of circumstances into motion. Enjoy retirement Kim.
Best Entertainment of 2023
The Fall of Minneapolis - Liz Collin, Dr. JC. Chaix. Watch it! This is a side of this saga that you will not hear in many places. Extertaining, informative, and important.
We all are aware of the most popular podcasts, but here are some of my favorite less popular shows that are interesting - On Being a Police Officer, The Com. Center, The Glenn Show, Courageous Leadership, and Street Cop Podcast.

Have a happy and safe New Years.

Please follow the proceedings of the case against Mark Wagner in Madison, WI. The trial is scheduled for mid-March 2024. His case, like so many others, is another example of a liberal, Dane County, WI, police hating DA against an honored, lifetime police professional that is being rail-roaded to satisfy an undeserving radical public minority.
Good job again. You nailed it with Nashville. Cheers to retirement and 2024.
